RETRAINMAP TRANSITION REPORT SPECIMEN № 001 OCCUPATION: CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES (SOC 43-4051) EDITION: NATIONAL PREPARED: 2026-08-15

§0 How to read this report

Four sections. §1 reads your occupation against the four public sources — two AI-exposure indices, one research framework, and the government’s own employment projection — including every point where they disagree. §2 shows what a “skills-adjacent safe pivot” engine actually returns for you. §3 is the paid substance: retraining routes with published prices, wage records, and funding pointers. §4 states what none of this data can tell you. Every figure carries a source and a fetch date; the consolidated list is at the end.

This report makes no predictions. It documents readings and facts.

▼ Decline

official BLS 2024–34 outlook: “Decline (−1% or lower)”

O*NET OnLine summary for 43-4051.00, republishing BLS OEWS (May 2025) and Employment Projections (2024–2034); fetched 2026-08-15.

The four public readings, side by side
SourceWhat it measuresReading for this occupationCaveat that source itself carries
AIOE index
Felten–Raj–Seamans, 2021
Occupational exposure to AI abilities, by task content 73rd percentile of 774 scored occupations (re-derived 2026-08-15) Built in 2021, before modern LLMs; scores are relative exposure, not risk of job loss
Anthropic Economic Index
May 2026 period
Observed Claude usage matched to occupational tasks Usage share 0.07%, rank 203 of 718 published occupations; conversation style: 65.7% augmentation / 34.3% automation (retrieved 2026-08-15) “AI is used for tasks commonly done by [this occupation]” — not evidence that these workers use AI or will be displaced; the dataset states it “cannot ground advice on career choices in either direction”
“GPTs are GPTs”
Eloundou et al., Science 384:1306–1308, 2024
Share of tasks whose completion LLMs could speed up ≥50% Framework paper, economy-wide: ~80% of U.S. workers have ≥10% of tasks affected; ~19% have ≥50% Measures potential task overlap, explicitly not displacement or timing
BLS Employment Projections
2024–2034
The government’s official employment model “Decline (−1% or lower)” (via O*NET OnLine, fetched 2026-08-15) A model with its own assumptions; projections are revised every cycle

Where the sources stand for this occupation: unusually, they point the same direction — above-median exposure on both indices and a declining official projection. That agreement is not guaranteed: for paralegals, the AIOE index reads the 87th percentile while BLS projects “little or no change.” When your occupation’s sources disagree, this section prints the disagreement instead of picking a side.

§2 The adjacency truth — what a “safe pivot” engine returns for you

O*NET lists 20 occupations related to yours by skills and task content. Here is every one of them with its AI-exposure percentile (AIOE, re-derived 2026-08-15). Below median exposure (<50th) is what a “safer pivot” would require.

¹ “Not scored” means the 2021-vintage index has no value for this occupation code. We print the gap; a naive engine silently drops it.

The verdict this table forces: of 19 scored related occupations, one sits below median exposure — Cashiers, at $32,880 median (2025): 27% below your occupation’s median wage, and itself projected to decline (BLS 2024–34: “Decline (−1% or lower)”; fetched 2026-08-15). Your most exposed “related options” — credit checking, billing, claims processing — sit at the 84th–98th percentile: the engine would be recommending climbs into the fire. This is why RetrainMap does not sell adjacency pivots. What it sells is §3.

§3 The priced escape menu — real routes, with receipts

Routes that materially lower exposure are mostly Job-Zone jumps: hands-on healthcare, licensed trades, transport. That is retraining — so the honest questions are what does it cost, what does it pay, and who funds it. Answers below, from published catalogs and rate sheets. In the paid edition these routes are priced from your state’s programs (in-district tuition differs; examples here are from TX, NJ, IL, NY).

Wages, employment and outlooks: O*NET OnLine (republishing BLS OEWS May 2025 / EP 2024–2034), fetched 2026-08-15. Exposure percentiles: AIOE, re-derived 2026-08-15 — readings, not predictions; see §4.

Who pays for this

Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), eligible workers can have training costs covered through their local American Job Center (find yours at CareerOneStop, a U.S. Department of Labor site). Registered apprenticeships pay wages from day one — search openings at apprenticeship.gov. Your paid edition lists the offices and programs for your state.

Earnings records, where they exist

For many college certificate programs, the U.S. Department of Education publishes program-level graduate earnings (College Scorecard field-of-study data), and the Census Bureau publishes earnings by institution and field (PSEO). Where a named route has a published earnings record, your report includes it — with the year and the count behind it. Where none exists, the report says “no published record” instead of inventing one.

§4 What this report cannot tell you

  • Whether you, personally, will lose your job. No public dataset supports that claim. The freshest exposure dataset (Anthropic Economic Index) states it plainly: “This data alone cannot support conclusions about job displacement or job security, and cannot ground advice on career choices in either direction” (served with the dataset, anthropic.com/economic-index, retrieved 2026-08-15).
  • Whether the indices are right. AIOE predates modern LLMs (2021); usage data is a snapshot of conversations, not employment; and the government’s projections sometimes contradict the indices — where they do, we print both.
  • Whether a route will work out for you. Program prices, wage medians and funding rules are facts with dates. Your completion, licensure, local market and luck are not in any table. The report gives you the evidence; the decision is yours.
